This zone is situated in the south of Portugal territory and was the last one to be conquered to the Moorish army by the Portuguese King in 1292. Still they are well clear, in its only architecture - terraces, chimneys and washed houses painted of white - the traces of Moorish ancient presence (also to see the Legend of the Almonds tree in Flower).

However the distance that in century XIII was very difficult to make, left of being an obstacle thanks to the conclusion of the highway Lisbon – Algarve allowing many Portuguese people and tourist coming from the north to spend their summer holidays.
 

In the north zone of Algarve there are the mountains of Espinhaço de Cão, Monchique and Caldeirão creating a natural sheltering barrier protecting the south coast against the strong winds. This region is full of clear colors with its fig trees, apple and almonds tree in flower, is also the greenest and fertile. The south coast consists of an extensive beach line of long sands, broken by the extraordinary irregular rocks and fantastic caves.
